This small town is over endowed with wonderful restaurants. You will see this area on Laurel St. which is about 5 blocks away. but I must also mention the excellent Afghan restaurant across the road: KABUL! Take kids to the beautiful parks, too!

Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites San Mateo-San Francisco SFO by IHG
10/10 Excellent
"The location feels safe, parking was spacious. Front desk staff are laid back and approachable. The building is well maintained, including the gym, indoor hot tub, and sauna. The hotel room was large, spacious, clean, and comfortable. My room had a mini fridge, closet, microwave, keurig, assortment of coffee and tea, dining table with two chairs, desk with rolling chair, cabinet, dresser, bedside table, flat screen tv, and two relatively comfortabel beds with 8 pillows in total. There was also an AC unit, as well as a large (clean) bathroom stocked with soap, body wash, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. The water got very hot, which was lovely.
The only complaints I have are that the walls were very thin, as I could hear people talking while walking down the halls. It felt as if our soft steps echoed through the floor of our room. I wish that the bathroom came stocked with a fan as those in the room can hear everything going on in the bathroom.

"A LOT of huge pluses for this place. Booked final night before flying home and just wished I had booked on the front end too. High points: Great, safe walkable area with oodles eating options. Secure prkg garage. The center courtyard patio area is exceptional! No photos on the website do it justice. Spent evening and morn sitting there. The pool area and courtyard are separated by a glassed in workout room, which we did not use but how nice to be able to use the equipt with a choice of views, courtyard or watching kids in pool. And this kept any pool noise inaudible in the courtyard area. Both areas contiguous to lobby, breakfast area. Genius layout/design. Our room was great; full kitchen a big plus for a fam of 4 just to spread out. Kitchen window had view looking east to rails, airport. No privacy issues, high enough up, just fun view for a tourist. Beds comfy, everything about the room great, just a little dark for my liking, but almost forgotten given all the positives). Staff at this hotel, scale of 1:5, a 6. That’s how good. Their airport shuttle does not run from 11:30am-@4pm. We had to be to airport at 2pm. That was an unexpected problem. Front desk Sonna (sp?) took care to resolve and ordered a cab for us. Strange to not have shuttle service at checkout time/midday, so best to plan ahead. Safe, walkable area with oodles of eating/carryout options (espec Asian) walking distance. Sooo much better than airport hotels just north of SFO. "

"Pros: Good location, near McDonald’s, Safeway supermarket. Breakfast was excellent. Hot water and coffee is available 24/7 at the front desk The housekeeping And breakfast staff are very friendly and efficient Cons: Refrigerator in my room 615 doesn’t work. No microwave in room (Except for the suites), but there is one outside near the office for general use. Despite the cons, I still want to stay this property again ."
"The age of the hotel is beginning to show. Staff was short especially for dinning. Staff was friendly. Outside of the facility was dirty. Obvious signs of vehicle abandonment throughout the facility. Cost of party was high and the daily rate was not told to us until we checked out. "
"Super smooth check in and awesome staff- we got in late from a concert and there was no issues. In house cookies were great and morning breakfast was just what we needed. Staff was always at desk/easy to find and nothing in our room or the entire hotel was dirty or broken. Very welcoming facility for a great price. "
"Overnight stay was pleasant and room was fantastic. There was Starbucks for purchase next to the lobby and a restaurant that served delicious food. Staff was friendly & approachable."
"I am a travel nurse and stay at hotels fairly often, and this spot is easily one of my favorites. Super clean pool and hot tub, decent free breakfast, clean rooms/comfy beds, and super friendly staff. Plus great food options close by! "
