"I recently stayed at "Kappa no Yado Ryokan Sanjiro" in Zao during my trip to Sendai. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend this inn!
First off, our room was incredibly clean and tidy, which made for a really comfortable stay. Cleanliness really makes a difference when you're trying to unwind from travel, and they nailed it. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised that the TV in the room had Netflix and other streaming services! It was awesome to kick back and watch a movie at night, just like I would at home.
But what truly stood out was the exceptionally warm hospitality from the staff. Every time we passed them in the hallway, they greeted us with a smile and struck up a friendly conversation. Those little touches really made the whole inn feel incredibly welcoming and cozy.
Now, about the onsen. I've often found that hot springs don't always agree with my skin, but the one at Sanjiro was super gentle and left my skin feeling incredibly smooth. I could really feel the beautifying effects, and I was so happy with it.
A Few Areas for Improvement
There were a couple of things that I think could be improved.
First, the temperature of the hotel's private bath. When I used it at night, it felt quite hot, almost too hot to really relax and soak in. It would be great if they could adjust the temperature a bit so more guests can enjoy it comfortably.
Second, regarding the cleanliness of the onsen facilities. The changing rooms and areas leading up to the bath were"
"Staff was very welcoming, meals were executed very well, sulfur baths and open baths were very nice. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. Great place to stay "
"The hotel is situated in a beautiful location, surrounded by nature (if you don’t have a car then it takes a couple of hours to see the local sights).
The rooms are traditional with great views, and super authentic.
The set dinners and breakfasts are the best I’ve had, and were something to look forward to.
There is a selection of onsens including the opportunity to hire private ones for those who aren’t confident of sharing more public pools.
A highlight of the trip so far"
"I need to contact the hotel regarding a forgotten item. Could you give me their email address please? Their website did not have any way for one to contact them without furigana (if you don't know what they is, just as well)."
"We stayed here for two nights and had a comfortable and convenient experience. The hotel was clean, and the staff were kind and accommodating. Although we didn’t have the free breakfast, there were plenty of great options available that would suit a wide range of tastes. The staff had a good understanding of basic English, which made communication smooth.
The location was excellent—just a short walk from the train station and close to a variety of food venues. The only downside was that the bed was quite firm and the pillows weren't the most comfortable. Other than that, it was a great base for exploring Fukushima and we’d happily stay again for a short trip."
"The room was a beautiful Japanese style room with table and chairs and futons on tatami mats amazing bathroom and private and public onsen! Would have stayed long if I could have! "
"The staff were very friendly and helpful. They did not speak English, but we used Google Translate to communicate. The room was spacious. The bath was very warm, but relaxing. Very traditional Japanese breakfast as well. Overall, great experience."
"Hotspring was very nice. I didnt stay due to the skiing aspect. But they are well equipped for it. Great quality of food for their breakfast and supper buffets. The staff were very kind even though i dont speak a lot of japanese. "
"We had a room with half board and enjoyed the 24 hr Natural hot spring within the hotel. Free shuttle to the bus station after check out was helpful as it snowed the night before "
"The staff are super friendly and always ready to help. The daily prepared meals were delicious and many varieties to choose from. Being able to book hot spring without leaving the resort was super convenient. Loved our family time here in Japan and will definitely come back again soon."
"We had a large Japanese style room. The onsen was good. Breakfast at the nearby hotel on the way to the ski lifts was a bargain for 980 yen!! It is about a 15 minute walk to the nearest supermarket "
"The spa is quite far out but has accessable buses from Sendai Station. The onzen was wonderful and clean. Staff was very friendly and spoke english. Only word of caution is unless you eat at the hotel, dinner options are limited and youd have to walk into town. Still a wondeful experience and would definitely stay again if we are in the Miyagi area. "
"A comfortable, clean business hotel with the added advantage of an onsen on the ground floor. Conveniently located in the traditional area of Yamagata on a bus route from the station. Breakfast in the top floor restaurant was buffet style."
"I arrived late at night, but the whole staff welcomed me sincerely, the room was simple and clean, breakfast was complimentary, so I don't have any complains. Someone plays music at the east side of the hotel, you can hear it when you open the window. "
