This is a hostel, not a hotel!

This place is a hostel located behind a car park. The finish is really rough, the bathrooms were manky but it all seemed clean. The pool was large and there’s lots of outside space. The ability to leave your suitcase/ bags for the day and then use the shower facilities before heading to the airport was a really useful bonus.

My stay at Selina Cancun was OK. It is reasonably cheap for the area, but the facilities did seem rundown for the price. The lights and electrical switches made a dodgy buzzing sound when used, the entertainment room was not working, the wifi wasn't available, there wasn't enough basic kitchen items like forks and knives, and the room didn't quite look as nice as the pictures. That being said, it was a pretty good location and everywhere in Cancun is crazy prices, so I guess you're getting what you pay for, just go in eyes wide open and don't expect anything fancy.

We had loud, pulsating music blaring from the poolside bar until 10:00. Could not read, or sleep without the noise. Then when that stopped at 10:00 pm, the music from downtown bars kept us up until 3:00 am. Having no elevator to go to 2rd floor room and had to carry 3 large suitcases up the stairs. No hand towels or wash clothes, even when I went to desk to request them.Will not stay there again.

You can hear all noises from side rooms, also their toilets! Room was not clean! There was stain on towels and sheets. Kitchen is not like the image, it has everything like fridge, stove, kitchenware. But it is dirty and old. It is worth less than money you pay. The vibe is great, the staff is nice and we enjoyed the pool. It is walkable distance from the beach and the coco bongo. The room looks great, but the humidity smell was unpleasant. We had to unclog the shower head from limestone. I'm happy the pump of the shampoo bottle was not working. I had to untwist the lid and hopefully took a sniff at it first. The product had probably alien living inside. I almost throw up.If we were staying there for longer, I would have asked for assistance from the lovely staff. I’m sure they would have helped with some of the issues we experience. I’m a big fan of Salina’s hotel, this one is not on top of my list.

Not what I was expecting

I’d had friends recommend staying at Selina, but my experience did not live up to the expectation. Yes, the location is good and it felt safe, and the private rooms were very very basic (as you would expect at a hostel, which is fine!) but there was a damp smell and feeling inside. We noticed mould on the shower curtain, and a constant smell of sewerage. We avoided using the shared kitchen amenities as it felt unclean. The one time we swam in the pool we didn’t put our head underwater as it was had floating bugs and debris. It was also not possible to contact the host beforehand despite multiple emails. The ‘look’ of the hotel was lovely with bright colours and murals. Probably fine for a night or two, but any more than that I’d look elsewhere!
