Pet-friendly pub

A lovely old hotel with good food and cosy rooms. Very pet-friendly, although dogs aren't allowed in the breakfast room. I'd certainly love to stay here again.

Highly recommend

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Freindly staff, a great pub with fine real ale, nice food and comfortable room.

We enjoyed our stay, lovely welcoming staff

The place is an old pub and whilst it is a little tired decor wise, this was clear from the pictures online. We had a request which wasn't passed on to the hotel, but the staff were so friendly and accommodating that it wasn't a problem. Location is lovely a quiet dales village with lovely views. Stayed one night and we both slept well. Some general maintenance of the premises wouldn't go amiss, and I would suggest a small information pack could be provided on the rooms for future guests.

Problematic beard growth

The staff were wonderfully friendly but especially the lovely cleaning lady who went all the way back to her home to get me a razor. I’d left mine behind and had to go to a wedding.

Great central location; ideal for touring. The staff were friendly and overall good value for money. However the bedrooms were tired and needed an uplift. Our biggest criticism were that bedroom windows could not be opened (locked and painted shut). On what was the hottest days of the year so far there was little or no ventilation.

It was really good. The couple running it were really nice and helpful. Room a bit basic but.nice comfy bed and lovely cotton sheets and towels. They have only been there 6 weeks so early days yet. I think they have plans and have taken on a big project. Good luck to them both.

6/10 Good

The property was obviously old and a little short of investment in decoration, room facilities and general cleanliness, but NOT so poor to inhibit a stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly in all areas with evening meals and breakfast, (except instant coffee!), very good. The small town is in a beautiful setting showing off rural dales countryside.

We had a great stay. Friendly staff and a clean basic room. Food was lovely and very generous portion size ! The bar had a limited stock of spirits available but there was enough to choose from. We will go back.

I would definitely stay here again.

I arrived late (after a long day cycling) but all the staff were super friendly. My bike was placed in a safe room overnight 👍 The chef agreed to stay later than usual to take my order, which was great and plentiful. I was made to feel like a local !! I ordered an omelette for breakfast which was great and made by the singing chef 😂 Very friendly place in an absolutely gorgeous location.

2 night stay with family

The staff were extremely pleasant an helpful, the food was excellent and reasonably priced but unfortunately we stayed on two of the hottest days of the year, the electric fan didn't really cool the room much and the windows didn't open so the nights were uncomfortable with not much sleep. Would stay again if we were in the area.

Overnight sleep in a four poster bed

We stayed at the Rose & Crown for an overnight stop, on our way back to Bristol from a weeks holiday in Scotland. The hotel has been there since 1455, lots of history, we found it to be a very cosy and quaint. Real wood fires making the snug cosy and warm. Manager and staff were lovely and friendly nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent as was the service. Our room was comfortable the four poster bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out of it. Breakfast was good great choice. Will definitely book to stay here again.

Run down and not very clean

Room in need of refurbishment and not very clean. Bathroom door coming apart and wouldn’t open fully. Breakfast service curt bordering on rude. Had to ask for dirty cup and spoon to be changed. Breakfast consisted of some boxes of cereal and choice of full English or an omelette. Dead bluebottles and dust on windowsill next to my seat off putting. Stayed in other much better and cheaper places found on Hotels.com so this was disappointing

Nice location, bad experience

Was disappointed, bathroom towels stained, hard and one had torn hole in it. Toilet seat was well loose and shower unit too small for to comfortably move in, appreciate it was a small room. Breakfast was good. There was a drunken argument going on until approx midnight in and outside, which the hotel management didn't handle. The police were called after the event. No apology received. Would expect better value for price paid.

2/10 Poor

Tired and shabby

The staff were all very friendly and helpful But the hotel was run down , shabby and unclean A good clean on everything would not go amiss The toilet seat was lose , no toilet rolls in the downstairs toilets, our bathroom/ toilet was dirty and not very well kitted out The room was adequate but again it needed a good clean and everything was abit worn and shabby looking The kettle worked but cups etc were dirty and stained A good thing , the bed looked lumpy and uncomfortable but was surprisingly very comfortable The breakfast table and cutlery was dirty But surprisingly the food was quite good Unfortunately we could not stay the days we had booked , after ONE night we decided to checkout , I would therefore ask for a refund as the amount we paid per night was an absolute disgrace , regarding the state of the hotel / pub I think I would only recommend this for the food , but then just barely , it’s ok if you clean your cutlery beforehand I think the owners of said establishment if they can , should try and update everything spending cash on and in the premises and then hire a good set of cleaners as it is a large hotel / pub
