Here is my no-nonsense appraisal of our stay:
Based on what I saw and what I heard from some locals, the hotel changed ownership fairly recently. The previous owner, from the sounds of it, let the place go and the new owners are doing extensive renovations. We got the large 6 person room. It was spacious enough for my family to stay. Bathroom, microwave, and TV set were dated, but functional; it may be they haven't done renovations in that room yet. Very quiet and I found the beds to be ridiculously comfortable. Like, far and away the best hotel bed I have ever experienced.
My daughter and I also spent time in the pool area. The pool wasn't immediately ready upon our arrival as it was undergoing cleaning, but hotel staff removed the cleaning equipment right away when they realized we wanted to use the pool. Pool area appeared to be about midway through its renovation process: the floor was obviously recently redone and repainted, but the bathrooms and sauna appeared to be dated and could probably use a refresh. Also, hotel furnishes pool toys, a welcome surprise.
Other amenities on the grounds gave the appearance of a north woods getaway location: gas grill out back that appeared available for guest use (did not use myself), firepit, lawn furniture, hammocks.
Overall, a decent hotel.
