It was the perfect 2-day get away! The unit was the cleanest most well thought out unit we’ve ever stayed in!! Highly recommend and we will be back!

Loved being able to see the caldera and it glowed all night. The rooms were lovely and well appointed. We loved the patio and deck chairs to sit out and watch the volcano and the stars.

Perfect Stay!

We had a magical stay! The volcano erupted halfway through and we had a crater view!! The front desk staff is superb, and the restaurant food and service excellent! We will be back.

Highly recommended

Conveniently located inside the national park. Hiking trails along the rim are literally steps away from the inn. Was fortunate to be able to watch the Kīlauea eruption from the inn. Can’t get any better. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and as good as one can expect from a place over 170 years old. Best part is there was no television as one should be outdoors enjoying nature and the night skies.

This is a beautiful vintage hotel with stunning views of Kilauea Caldera. It has an outside balcony and inside viewing area. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Restaurants are excellent. The Rim also has wonderful views. All of this is with the National Park and close to all the activities. This is our 2nd stay and we would definitely visit again. Only downside is parking has been difficult with all the volcanic activity and construction.

8/10 Very good

Exceeded our expectations. We were treated very well, as we celebrated my sister's special birthday. Excellent staff, and a beautiful location.

Classic Hotel

Special place to stay. No TVs, no AC but it cooled down quickly and a good bit in the evening so it wasn't an issue. However, the smoke from the fireplaces seemed the permeate the rooms overnight. I think the floors were noisy for the people below. Great to be right in the mix. Wasn't crowded. Loved the welcome drink. Restaurant and bar were great. The negatives are all reasonable tradeoffs for staying in a historic National Park hotel with a view of the caldera but they should be known before arrival. Shower was nice and in good condition for the age.

8/10 Very good

Pros: Great place to view the volcano and be in the park. Unique experiencle. Cons: not enough dedicated parking for the hotel guests because parking was also open to day visitors, forcing hotel guests to park quite far away.

Great view of the eruption!

The hotel was great, but super busy with the eruption going on. Parking was difficult. The room was exactly what we needed and we had an incredible view. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and exploring all the trails around the hotel.

This is a national park; not a five star resort. Bldg is older but well kept. Clean. Staff was excellent. Our rooms had a view of the crater and eruption.

We were not sure what to expect, but it was great. The view from the room of the volcano was amazing and with no TVs as a distraction you could really focus on the beauty of Hawaii. The restaurant there was excellent for dinner and my family enjoyed the breakfast buffet as well. you could walk out the back of the hotel directly onto a trail that would allow you to hike most of Volcano National Park. If we make it back to the Big Island again we will be sure to stay here again.

6/10 Good

Good for one and done

We stayed for one night in this historic hotel on the rim of the Kilauea volcano. The building is quite old, and it shows. The entire structure has a smokey, gross, mildewy smell to it. The carpet is gross and the walls and doors have not been cleaned of dirt, grime, and hand prints in a long time. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. For the experience of seeing the volcano's glow at night, it was worth staying for one night but I wouldn't go back again.
