Two things bring the otherwise good review down. The information given at the lodge and the map of the park provided was NOT ACCURATE causing us to drive completely down a path that was no longer in use and we almost got stuck. This even though we specifically asked if the map was up to date having been sold an inaccurate map in Nakuru before.
Searching for the way to Wandare gate from the Ark cost us more than 2 hours. We had to cancel our planned hike due to the delay. Considering we are paying 40 000 KES for two days in the park (2 ppl) it is quite uppsetting that one day is wasted. The signs in the park are in a poor state, as are all picnicsites. None of that huge fee seems to ho to upkeep of the facilities!
The food at the Ark is excellent, very tasty, but packed lunch for 2500 was a disappointment, 3 pieces of grilled chicken, a boring white bread sandwich, some chips, fruit, and a small chocolate. At that price you’d expect a very nice packed lunch - maybe quality sandwiches with chicken curry or meatballs, hummus and pita, pasta with pesto, fruit salad, real dessert etc. This packed lunch is worth about 1000-1500 KES.
Lodge and location are otherwise great. Rooms good, comfortable beds but some shelves in the room and bathroom would be needed so guests can unpack a bit.
