Great old timey hotel.
Very neat old hotel. The manager was very kind and helpful. Will definitely stay there again next time we go to Maquoketa.

It appeared the bar and grill was out of service. The hotel itself was like a museum going back in time. The room was clean with old school wooden furnishings. I enjoyed my stay but ate at the local diners on main street. Hotel reminded me of the movie "The Shining". I thought it was pretty cool seeing the vintage furnishings.

Charming boutique hotel. Very clean and quiet. Good restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast is not great, yogurt and cold cereal.

Historic grandeur that needs some TLC to retain its glory. Clean and pretty, but a bit forgotten, it seems.

Probably the cleanest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. The owner is doing an excellent job putting this ancient hotel back together. I would stay there again. Close to the caves.

A Shadow of the past greatness
Had stayed at the decker 10 years ago when their bar and restaurant were operating and was excellent. Both are closed now and there is just not a lot else in maquoketa. Place was nearly empty except for us even though there were some events going on in the area. Still a unique and well preserved old hotel but could use a few room updates such as fridge . There also was no ice machine in the place. A minor annoyance but those add up. All in all it was acceptable but not great.

Nice historic place.
Nice historic hotel. Would have liked a little more of a breakfast and didn’t find an ice machine. Had an elevator to get to the 3rd floor. Would stay again.

Amazing room. Interesting hotel.
Our room was amazing! It was one of the most amazing rooms I’ve ever stayed in. There is no restaurant or bar, even though it’s in the name. The breakfast was simple but ok.

The staff was very friendly - greeted us everytime we walked in. And helpful by carrying our suitcase up the steps. It is an older building so the rooms are smaller but we expected that and enjoyed the individual charm and the coziness.
There was a Mexican restaurant on the same block which was nice to walk to and the food was good.

This historical hotel was incredibly beautiful. We stayed on the 3rd floor but the elevator was out of order. Just a slight inconvenience. All the furniture in the suite was antique and was very nice but a comfortable sitting area with a couple pieces of more modern furniture would have been nice.

First off, there is no restaurant or bar, and no breakfast that we were aware of. The staff was friendly, room was clean and quiet. The bed needs to be replaced as it sagged in the middle. Good water pressure and temp in the shower. For the price, I give 3 stars. I love historic buildings, but this hotel definitely could use some TLC.

No f no way
Place was scary and no bar or restaurant the guy could tell my cousin and I anything about anything the door lock had gray duct tape on it and a man kept peeking out at us every time we walked in. So scary we packed up and left and when we left I put the keys on the desk and a man came out in pjs and bare feet. We were scared as soon as we got there. We are both in our forties so it takes a lot to freak us out. No way could I sleep there we got a queen as cousins thinking that’s fine no the room was tiny not what was shown with an old little bed
We could have gotten through that as us gals grew up together so no biggie but the vibe was insanely scary. I wish we could get our money back but we were willing to pay the 116 and dive out because it was insanely scary. We dug deeper and they rent it out at 600 a month explains a lot
F no to this do not go unless you want to be scared out of your mind
It reminded us of American horror story hotel

Maquoketa, Decker Hotel
We stayed on the second floor although, there was an elevator, there were many steps to our room. The room was vintage. The continental breakfast was lacking. The bathroom was clean. The temperature in the room was adjustable and worked well. The temperature outside was warm during the day and cool at night.

We love the Decker, but ….
The elevator was out of service. We had a room on the third floor. Which wasn’t bad overall. Just during load in and load out.
The bed was not very comfortable. I should have asked for a different room.
The lounge was closed. It was open last time we were there and were looking forward to it.
Overall we enjoy staying at the Decker. But they will need to make some improvements before we return.

This old historic hotel is a gem. The manager upgraded us to a beautiful suite with a king size bed without my asking. Super spacious with a jacuzzi tub. Bed was comfy and so were the pillows. Hotel is in the heart of the old downtown in Maquoketa. Great place to stay if you’re visiting the caves. Frig, microwave and Keurig coffee maker in the room. The only disappointment was breakfast. No pastries, breads or juice. Very small selection, but we made do. Overall a wonderful place to stay.
