Maldon High Street has plenty of character for during the day, and situated close to the river Blackwater, so good for walks. Plenty of pubs to visit during the evening, which can be lively at the weekend.

I have been coming to Maldon for over half a century and still find new things
"This hotel was perfect for our early morning flight from Stansted. Parking was very easy and only a short walk to the terminal for our early morning flight. The staff were friendly. A continental breakfast bag was provided for us as we were leaving the hotel at 3.30am. Our 3 rooms were booked last minute and were actually all next to each other which is never guaranteed. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel provided exactly what we needed. "
"We decided to start our holiday early and stay at the Stansted Airport Lodge before our 7am flight the following morning.
We didn't arrive at the hotel until about 10pm but were we greeted at reception by a friendly and helpful staff member and shown to our room.
The room was basic but spacious and you could see the airport from one of the windows.
We weren't there long as we left at 4:30am but we did have a few hours sleep in a comfortable bed.
We would stay here again if we had an early flight from Stansted as it's less than 10 minutes from the airport."
