Hotels in Matathawa Island

"First things first the "negative". The Buras are located on a hill so you have to climb up the hill to get to them and they also don't have AC. I know that's a point of contention for some. That being said I didn't mind the walk especially because the Bura had an incredible view of the island and the water and was the absolute perfect spot to watch sunsets. It also had a lot of windows so we had a nice breeze all the time and I didn't miss the AC at all. Room was clean and well made with lots of flowers when we arrived. The restaurant didn't have a huge menu as it was a smaller resort but that being said the menu was different everyday and we never had a meal that we didn't thoroughly enjoy. Every meal was fantastic. The staff was probably the best part, it was visible that the staff were trying to make a personal connection with us at every opportunity trying to get to know us and to get to know us by name"

"We had a lovely 5 day stay at Mai Sunset. The food was delicious, the views are phenomenal, the bed was comfortable and the people make this experience truly unique. What more could you ask for? We hope to be back with the whole family someday soon! "

"This family run lodge is perfect for people who want a quiet tropical getaway. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. We had a smaller bure on the beach, which was perfect for the two of us for 8 nights. The hammocks are great for lounging. The food was very good and the communal eating is very social. You can hike or take a boat around to Oarsmans or Blue Lagoon for a massage, lunch and great snorkelling. There is also coral to the west of the small island for snorkelling."

"Location is perfect with nice beach. Food to plain. Need to be more fresh fruit and fish. Very basic accommodation. Simple updates can make it much better. Fiji people very nice and try to help you is worth the stay. "
