Owner refused to speak to Hotels.com since apparently he has only signed a contract with Expedia (but didn’t acknowledge it was the same company!) and refused to speak English... Hotels.com was not able to sort it out not find anywhere else and we had to drive back home 3hrs in the other direction...

Breakfast also excellent and service was superb. Only disappointment was car parking - from the description we had assumed parking was on site and secure not across the road on the open verge. The staff were very friendly and helpful on check-in. The hotel itself is quite tired and needs some modernisation.
Restaurant was not open the evening we were there but the Local town of Avallon had plenty of pleasant restaurants available.

"Place is in a sorry condition, as soon as you hit the stairs you notice a weird stench, the building is old, I can hear the neighbors every time they walk around or flush the toilet. Not sure what was happening during my stay but there were doors being slammed repeatedly all afternoon. However, the place is equipped to accommodate cyclists and their bikes in the form of a dedicated secure storage space. For the price I would have expected the room to be better equipped and the place to be better maintained "
