Hurlburt Field Visitor Center is worth a visit, located 1.3 mi (2 km) from central Hurlburt Field. Hotels.com travelers also say the area is family-friendly and has lots of nice beaches.
"The hotel was in a great location on the beach. There was sufficient parking in a well lit lot. Booking and check-in was easy. The room was in a great area and was clean and comfortable with the beautiful view we asked for. Housekeeping was accommodating. Some of the amentities we used included beach access, hot tub, two swimming pools, two onsite restaurants, exercise room, and an arcade. The pool was closed early due to lightening and then did not reopen for the rest of the night even though the pool at a neighboring hotel was open for hours later. The restaurant food was good, mostly bar food and burgers and fries for dinner and then a large selection and big servings of breakfast foods. Drinks and snacks are also sold at the front desk. Check-out was easy."
"My kids and I stayed at the Island at Fort Walton Beach for 5 days. They had a lot of fun events throughout the day to attend and the live music on the deck by the beach was great. The resort was beautiful! There were a few restaurants and shops within walking distance. We could walk to the Okaloosa Island Pier and the Gulfarium. We were also only a few minute drive to Destin. I had only two concerns: the resort charged an additional $30/per day resort fee at check out. So be prepared to be charged the additional fees. (The front desk staff were not all that friendly or very customer service oriented.)
And the breakfast buffet "discounted rate" was $25.00 per person. The food was not worth $25.
Other than that, we loved the resort and the time we spent there. We felt safe and the resort was clean and well kept. We would definitely come back! "

"Absolutely love the staff, they saved my vacation. Went to stay at Destin Village Inn and it was horrible. Things wrong with the room, roaches everything you don't want. I called the Hampton to see if they were able to do an early check-in after explaining happened at the Inn. They were quick to get me taken care of. The beds were comfortable, room was clean, and the short walk to the beach was amazing. Cant thank then enough for saving what might be the laat vacation ill evee have with my mom to the beach!"
"Overall, i loved our stay at the henderson, most staff were helpful and accommodating. Renting a spot on the now private beach was a nightmare and we were never confirmed and that was our only issue. The pools were beautifully kept and our room as well. The younger valet men were also great and helpful, we enjoyed conversing with then. "
