Learn more about Lansing

Lansing is well-known for its attractions such as Phoenix Mountain and Landmark Farm Alpacas.

At the historic River House Country Inn and Restaurant in Grassy Creek, NC (near West Jefferson), you can enjoy a tranquil breakfast overlooking majestic mountain vistas, the North Fork New River, and… grazing cows. The land the River House rests on was bought in the early 1800s by miner Meredith Ballou when Ashe County was just established. In 1943, the namesake cottage was added. Now, it serves as a #hiddentreasure of Appalachia, which extends traditional Appalachian hospitality to visitors. A year ago, I was invited to play the violin at a wedding here, and I fell in love with the beautiful and quaint landscape. It also hosts many events in its main cottage. When I went to take this picture, a piano recital was in progress. I am glad I was able to visit the breathtaking property once more! #appalachianechoes
